HISTORY OF THE CLUB

The Pinelands Lions club had its beginning in February 1977 when it was Charted by the nearby Lions club of Macgregor. The club began with 28 members & has prospered over the years with a proud history of involvement in many International, district, & local community projects.

The club is located on the south side of Brisbane & draws members from Sunnybank Hills, Runcorn, Kuraby, Eight Club House of Brisbane Pinelands LionsMile Plains, Stretton & surrounding areas.

We conduct our Dinner meetings at the Lions Hall at Nathan Rd Runcorn ; Our hall was originally built in 1926 by the local community Progress Association.

Soon after the Pinelands club was chartered we were asked to take over hall maintenance, management  & this led to eventual ownership on behalf of the local community. The hall is used daily by many local community groups & organizations as well as our own Lions Club & requires constant maintenance & renovation.

Our club has supported the following Lions International & District Projects:-

Funding of Kidney & Medical research at P.A. Hospital, Brisbane.

Lions Christmas Cakes & Mints sales program.

Tsunami & Cyclone Larry appeals.

Funding of ?Sight-first?.

Lions Hearing Dogs for the deaf.

Lions Peace Poster Competition.

International Youth Exchange.

Lions National ?Youth of the Year? quest.

Lions ?Miss Personality? quest.

?Love Wraps?

Some of our more local areas of involvement are :

Financial & physical support of: -

 ?Carramar? Residential Care Facility

 Meals on Wheels

 ?Kyabra? Community Association

Autistic Children?s Centre

Local School development & community projects.

We also undertake various welfare projects assisting individuals & community groups to provide services to needy people in our area.

We maintain, & upgrade the only community hall in our area for the use of all community groups at a nominal charge.

As well as community projects, Pinelands Club believes that the answer to keeping a club working as an achieving group, is a strong social aspect to the club. We have many social events that allow us to come together & enjoy each other?s company & welcome new members & families. Some of these have a fund raising aspect, but many are just social events.

Family BBQs.

Country Picnics.

Weekend 3day trips away

Australia Day picnics

Theatre Nights.

Breakfast & barefoot bowls days.

Progressive dinners. (Often theme nights).

Christmas Luncheon.

An aspect of our club that is of great importance to us is our ?Ladies Committee?, mostly made up of ladies who are partners of our Lions members & conduct their own meetings & projects as part of our club, as well as supporting all projects conducted by the club.

Our current membership is 23 (plus ladies committee) & we organize membership drives to increase this number.

Our members range in age from the 30?s to 70?s (male & female), with strong family involvement in most projects.

Bne Ekibin Lions of MD201, Australia

As an extension to the Turkish Lions' contribution, the Brisbane Ekibin Lions Club of MD 201 Q1 (Australia) offer assistance to Lions Clubs who want to take advantage of the Turkish Lions offer, but are not familiar with web publishing. They've already set up many sites for Lions Clubs world-wide, using Lionwap.
If your club wants to be on the internet, and would like some help, leave a message in the Ekibin Guest Book by clicking on the image above.  This is a FREE SERVICE, so you don't spend a cent for their work. As Lionwap is also FREE, this means you get a web site that you NEVER have to pay for. - Is that a deal or what?
All your Club has to do it have some-one update and maintain your page, which needs not take more than a few minutes each month. The Ekibin Lions will even give you some tips on that!
